The faculty, staff, families, and students at John F. Kennedy Middle School will work as partners to foster a positive learning environment. This compact has been jointly developed and describes school and family responsibilities.
As a John F. Kennedy Middle School Faculty Member, I Pledge To:
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
- Teachers will use the state’s standards to guide their planned lessons.
- Teachers will post the state’s standards along with their daily objectives on their boards.
- Teachers will use various instructional strategies to reinforce standards.
- Provide families opportunities to participate in their child’s classes and to observe classroom activities, as follows:
- Families may accompany students on field trips, but it must be prearranged.
- Families may attend open house, Title I meetings, conferences, and recognition of student achievement events.
- Families may attend/support athletic events.
- Provide families reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with families as follows: Teachers will be available during their planning time at least once a week.
- Provide appropriate homework to reinforce the skills that have been taught at school.
- Communicate with families regularly about their child’s progress.
- Hold an annual meeting to inform families of the school’s participation in the Title I program, and explain Title I and the right of parents to be involved. The school will convene the meeting at a convenient time for families and will offer flexible additional family engagement meetings, such as in the morning or evening, so that as many families as possible are able to attend. The school will invite all families of children participating in Title I programs to this meeting.
As a John F. Kennedy Middle School Parent/Family member, I Will:
- Read and provide feedback to the School’s Compact and Family Engagement Policy.
- Show respect for my child, other children and their families, the teachers, administration, and the school through my words and actions.
- Provide a place for homework and check to see that all work is completed.
- Ask my child about schoolwork and activities every day.
- Communicate with my child’s teacher by reviewing progress reports, report cards, Infinite Campus, and attending conferences.
- Take responsibility for my child’s behavior and help the teacher if disruptive behavior occurs.
- Communicate with the school about any changes in address or phone numbers.
- Ensure that my child attends school regularly and on time, according to the MNPS school calendar. "Attendance Matters."
As a John F. Kennedy Middle School Student, I Will:
- Be responsible for my actions and behaviors each day.
- Listen and participate in the classroom in a positive manner.
- Respect the feelings, property, and rights of others.
- Be a good citizen by doing what is right because it is the right thing to do for others and myself.
- Achieve high expectations and be prepared to learn every day.
