Technology Contract and Phone Policy

Technology Contract

MNPS laptops have been provided to all PreK-12 students to support instruction in a 1:1 Blended Environment. In order to protect technology and ensure continued access to the digital learning environment, students need to follow some important rules and procedures.

Student Responsibilities

  • Bring your device and charger to school each day. Your laptop should be fully charged.
  • Treat your device with respect and use gently.
  • No food/drinks should be near your device at any time.
  • Always hold with 2 hands by the keyboard, NOT the screen.
  • Store in a laptop case when not in use.
  • Transport between classes in the laptop case.
  • Keep on a desk or table, never on the floor.
  • Be mindful when putting down a bag that holds your laptop. Do not drop or toss.
  • Report any issues to your teacher or to the school librarian.
  • Students are expected to participate and submit work using their laptop. They are responsible for any work missed due to not having a device.

Damaged Devices

Accidents do happen, but students will be held accountable for intentional damage or damage due to negligence. Following MNPS Student Device Procedures, students may be subject to fines of replacement costs for damaged devices, as assessed by School Administration.

Lost or stolen devices

If a device is lost or stolen, it should be reported to the Metro Nashville Police Department. The police report number should be provided to the school immediately and will be needed for the student to be issued a replacement device. After 2 cases of loss or damage, students will be issued a loaner device to be kept at school only.

JFK Phone Policy

JFK uses YONDR pouches for students to store cell phones and other electronic devices during the instructional day.

Expectations

  • Students will have all electronic devices including Air Pods, in the YONDR pouch for the entire day. Phones must be powered off in pouch.
  • Pouches will be labeled with students' first and last name.
  • Students that arrive late to school must check in the front office, show front office staff their YONDR pouch with electronic device in the pouch before they can receive a pass to class.
  • Early Dismissal students will unlock pouches in the front office.
If a student forgets their YONDR bag, teacher will take phone to front office. Phones will not be given back to students. Parents must pick up student phones between the hours of 8:40-4:10
  • Under no circumstance should students take their phone out of their YONDR pouch throughout the school day. This includes for instructional purposes.

If student states that they do not have their phone, they must sign a document stating that they did not bring their cell phone to school.

In Case of Emergencies

Follow school safety protocol. Students can unlock their phone once they reach a safe location. Students who use phones for medical reasons will be able to unlock their phones in the nurse's station.

Consequences

  • If student refuses to place phone in pouch, call the front office for an administrator.
  • If student has damaged a pouch trying to open it, please let administration know (admin will do random pouch checks).
  • YONDR pouches are school property. Parents are responsible for replacement fee.
